Youth Group

I am holding open auditions for the youth group play 'Oliver Twist', to be performed 8th-10th November this year. Please note this is a play, NOT the musical!
There will be a read-through of the script on Sunday 20th May 6:30-8pm, where we will get to know the play and I will answer any questions/hand out audition pieces. The audition will be on Sunday 10th June 6:30-8:30pm. Both of these will take place in the theatre bar, which is accessible through the back gate of the Playhouse Whitstable.
The read-through is not mandatory - if you cannot attend this but would like to audition then please contact me.
I would encourage parents to drop off and pick up, as space can be limited in the bar area. It can be nerve-racking meeting new people and auditioning on the same day, so feel free to come in and meet me from 6pm on either date, as the doors will be open from then!
Notes - please read
  • Successful auditionees will be required to pay the £5 membership to the Lindley Players, and will have a place in the youth group outside of play rehearsals (should you wish to have one!).
  • The youth group is volunteer led - please bear this in mind during communications - and we stick to a cast size with which we feel comfortable. If you or your child is not successful this time, you may of course remain on the waiting list.
  • All youth group leaders and helpers have been DBS checked and/or hold chaperone licences.
  • Communication is through email and/or a facebook group, in the interest of audit trails. Parents/Guardians may join the facebook group if they wish.
  • All cast members must be 13-18 years old (inclusively) at the time of performance.
  • Rehearsals will be Sunday evenings 6-9pm starting in June, with a break over summer. There will be some weekday rehearsals scattered about in the fortnight leading up to the show.

Unfortunately the youth group is currently full and not taking applications for new members. To add your name to the waiting list please sign up here

As a voluntary run group our places are limited so there is often a waiting list, currently young people wait anywhere between 6-18 months for a place. We occasionally hold open auditions for our annual show in June, if this is the cast, details wiill be shown above.

For local youth drama groups please see The Horsebridge, The Gulbenkian Theatre or The Marlowe Theatre.

The Lindley Players have a very vibrant and active Youth Group for 13 to 18 years olds inclusively.

We have a varied and flexible syllabus and the students learn about everything from the theatre of cruelty to improvised comedy. The group allows young people to build confidence and verbal communication skills and meet other likeminded people.

We have grown considerably in number in the last two years, winning a Kent Drama Festival award for 'Best Youth Drama' in 2015 for our production of 'DNA'.

The group performs a main stage play every Autumn and a 'green room' production in the bar every Spring. Take a look at some of our productions:
